Concrete repair

CAWS repairs damaged concrete across Perth: concrete cancer and spalling, cracked slabs and walls, broken stairs and edges, and concrete damaged by leaks. We find out why the concrete failed, repair it with the right materials and fix the cause, so the repair lasts.

Concrete we repair

Why concrete fails

Most concrete damage in Perth comes back to water and salt. Sea air, leaking balconies and roofs, and poor drainage let moisture reach the steel inside the concrete. The steel rusts and swells, and the concrete cracks and falls away. Movement, overloading and poor original workmanship play a part too. Patching over the damage without dealing with the cause means it comes back.

How we repair concrete

  1. Investigate. We work out what has failed and why, and where the damage stops, before we quote.
  2. Break out. Damaged concrete is removed back to sound material.
  3. Treat the steel. Rusted reinforcement is cleaned and primed, and replaced or supplemented to an engineer’s design where needed.
  4. Rebuild. The concrete is reinstated with a repair mortar suited to the job, with formwork for stairs, edges and corners.
  5. Protect and fix the cause. Protective coatings go on, and leaking balconies, roofs and planters are waterproofed so the damage doesn’t return.
  6. Hand over. We photograph the finished repair, so you have a record.

Common questions

Can damaged concrete be repaired, or does it need replacing?

Most damaged concrete can be repaired. Replacement is usually only needed where the concrete has lost its strength over a large area. We will tell you which one applies once we have looked at it.

What is the difference between concrete repair and concrete cancer repair?

Concrete cancer is one type of concrete damage, where rusting steel cracks the concrete from the inside. Concrete repair covers that and everything else, from cracks and broken edges to stairs and car park decks.

Do I need an engineer?

For most repairs, no. Where the repair affects the structure, or the steel has lost a lot of its section, we work to an engineer’s design.

Do you work outside Perth?

Yes. We work across Perth and Peel, and regularly in Bunbury, Geraldton and other parts of regional WA.
